Hey guys! In this post, I'll be using English to review one of my favourite animes:
Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso
or
Your Lie in April
BE WARNED!
This posts contains many spoilers for those of you who haven't watched it :3
Song lyrics:

Genre:
Romance, Music, Slice of Life, Shoujo

Main Plot:

This anime features Arima Kousei, a piano prodigy, as the main character. Kousei has been connected to the piano every since a young age and is able to play EXACTLY LIKE THE SCORE (the sheet music). However, after his mother's death, for some reason he cannot seem to hear the notes he plays on the piano. I think this is linked because his mother was the one who pushed him into playing the piano and so after she died, he was traumatized and because of the strong connection between his mother and the piano, his ability to play like before was destroyed.

One day, he meets a girl, Miyazono Kaori, who is supposedly in love with his best friend, Watari. Kaori is a violinist and has a unique playing skill which allows her to make the song her own. However, during a competition, this is considered disgraceful, because it changes the way the composer wanted the song to be. However, when advancing to the next round, Kaori demands that Kousei, or Friend A as she calls him, to be her accompanist (playing the piano). Together they practice hard as not to stumble on the big day. But in the middle of the performance, Kousei isn't able to hear the notes because he sees his mothers spirit. This causes him to stop playing. However, Kaori lifts him up and tells him to start over from the beginning. Everyone in the audience is shocked, firstly because they witnessed a prodigy crumble and second because Kaori and Kousei started to play again from the top.

After a while, Kousei realizes that he is in love with Kaori. But he can't do anything because Kaori is in love with Watari. Little did he know that his childhood friend (and the one who introduced Kaori), Tsubaki, was in love with him. Actually, Tsubaki is jealous of Kaori because she and Kousei are linked with music, whereas Tsubaki isn't.

A surprising plot twist happens and it turns out that Kaori is sick with a deathly disease. Because of this, she doesn't have a long time to live. She is offered surgery by the docters, but the chances of survival are very slim and if it succeeds, it will only lengthen her life span by only a few years. However, she wants to have one more duet with Kousei so she accepts the surgery. While she goes through this surgery, Kousei is facing a piano competition in hopes that his music while reach her heart and help her survive the surgery.

Sadly, it turns out Kaori did not survive. Kousei is left with a heart-wrenching letter from Kaori. In this letter, Kaori confesses that she actually wasn't in love with Watari, but Kousei instead. She tells him she's sorry and confesses her love over and over again.

---> so this is the plot that i came up with after watching. It's not that complete because I didn't want to spoil it too much.

My Rating:
  • Sadness Rating:  8,5/10
  • Romanticness:    7,5/10
  • Animation:          8/10
  • Story Line:          9/10
  • Music:                 10/10
  • Overall Rating:    8/10

My Thoughts:
I absolutely LOVE this anime! I really like the watercoloured concept too. I cried buckets during the ending though... However I'm a bit upset that Kaori and Kousei never got to have another duet together :(

ANYWAYS... I definitely recommend all you anime lovers to watch this anime, especially if you're into romance and music.
